Digging a little

I did a little digging over the weekend even though I wasn't going to dig this year, but decided to dig the section I'm planting my spuds. Not doing many this year as its only that seems to eat them, might just plant 1 bag of 2nds and 1 main crop. Or just plant main crop really early and just take up if and when needed, it could be a bumper crop of spuds but if we don't eat them no point in growing them. May increase what we eat and decrease the rest, might put more onions in we do like our onions though. Think last year I planted nearly 600 onions and it took ages to plant them, you felt like giving up because I had loads to plant. Will try some new ones this year as well as some old ones, I did lose a few last year but wasn't just one type. It will end up like an onion farm hehe, anyway only time will tell.  In the pond we have plenty of frogs in the centre of the pond mating, looks like we will be over run with them not complaining it's nice to see.

Just a quick visit this week.

Only had a quick visit this week and really didn't do anything, apart for collect some leafs which had been left. I had some leafs left from the other year so I just topped them up, I'll leave them for a while before I top them up. I'm in no rush to use them as I've ready got some to use,I'm still sieving the other pile and removing weed roots, it's a pain but less heartache later on when I hundreds of weeds growing. I did notice that the area I have my compost and manure isn't looking very good, seems that all the wood is starting to rot. I've never changed it since I've had the plot, so going to have to change it sooner that later.  Think I'll build a frame around the old frame, then remove the old one and the new one will hold it all in place. Well that's my plan anyway as all good plans it could all change, will keep you all informed as try and sort something out.

Just a bit done

Spent a few more hours down on be plot with the wind blowing through my hair, I decided to clear out the greenhouse and general tidy. Moved all the rubbish out of the GH and sorted out what i wanted to keep, also made a start moving the soil out. On all three sections in the GH I remove the top of the soil like the poly tunnel, then topped it up with soil/ leaf mould/ sand. The soil is from a chap on another plot he had got from some work on someone's house, the soils does look quite good and it's worth a try. I've also topped it up with leaf mould so it's looking quite good.  So the GH is soil from another plot holder and the soil in the PT is all mine, so will see how both of these fair up in this years season. I also picked some bits up from the plot, not a lot but it's something.

Think the mice want it

Think the mice want these squashes as a home for the night, or over winter to keep warm and fed. I don't mind them having them doing my little for nature, need to try and catch them leave or come to the squashes while at the plot.

New year new start

Who am I kidding it's only me that stops myself from going to the plot, well some of the time it is so I won't blame myself to much. Had a walk around the plot at the weekend and was quite chuffed on how it was looking, still a little to tidy up but nothing too hard well till I try. I made a start on taking some soil out of the ploy tunnel and replacing it with some better soil, it started well with a little back ache so had to dig on my knees.

I dug the soil out and place it behind the poly tunnel on some spare bit of ground, the. Realised I didn't have any soil to put back it. I had some leaf mould that had been behind the tunnel for well over a year , the same leaf mould if been trying to grow some spuds in last which was hit and miss. So I sieved the soil I took out and mixed it with the leaf mould, then I transferred it back into the tunnel and fill the hole I dug out earlier. I also mixed some sand and scoot in with it, just have to keep topping it up as it settles.
