Been to the allotment today to check what I have in store for myself, didn't realise how big the plot was and what I needed to plant to fill the lot up. The plot is 150 feet x 26 feet long and that doesn't include the sheds on either end,I have managed to rotovate some of the plot today, but will not be able to rotovate anymore till weekend cos I can't get the rotator till then.I have plenty to do on the plot two shed to tidy up and the greenhouse to move, also do a little bit of weeding.

More seeds planted.

Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device

I went to the allotment yesterday to make sure everything was ok and check my seeds and plant some more, everything was ok no sign of the kids being on so all good. The onion and leeks were coming on ok so I decide to sow some more seeds in pots, I put some celery - beetroot - cherry toms in some pots. I also planted some more flower seeds which were some Aster - Dahlias - Marigolds will keep informed, if I keep sowing the seeds I think I will need a bigger greenhouse.

Tuesday 15 March 2011

Just a quick check.

Went to the allotment on Sunday just to have a quick look around and water the seed, all seems fine no damage to any plots with kids getting on. A few more of the onion and leek seeds have grown a little more just waiting for toms and flowers to show face,I will be quite chuffed if the new seeds grow I've never grown seeds before. I'm hoping to get to the allotment a little more this week if I feel any better even if it's to just to have a quick check, when i was they on Sunday another person had given up her plot to go to another site to scared to go back incase everyone else has left.

Thursday 10 March 2011

Not been much + plant some seeds.

I've not been to the allotment since Sunday only because I am not feeling very well I think it's man flu I have,I have been in bed just after 7pm most nights and sleeping most of the way till morning.I managed to go today and check up on the onion and leeks seeds I have growing, but with me not being at the plot for a few days the compost is quite dry just hope the seeds survive they little drought.
I also planted some tomatoes and pepper seeds to see if I can grow them also some flower seeds for bedding plants and pots,I've never grown anything from seed before so this is my first attempt at growing something.

Monday 7 March 2011

Front fence and compost bin.

I finished making a fence out of reclaimed pallets cant go wrong with free ones, at least if they rot
i can get some more and just change them over.

I have made some wooden slats to hold the compost in place instead of using plastic, across the top i have
some springs to hold the pallets together.

Found a handy foot scraper on the floor while taking the dog for his walk the other day.

Onions

Onions have just started to grow.

Raised bed.

I managed to make a raised bed not to sure what to plant in it yet.

The raised bed are near the roadway next to my plot, which the soil in not that good at all with all bricks/glass/stones/plastic/nails/ and other rubbish buried under the soil.

New tools for the job.

My new spade very nice.

My little wheel barrow i don't think it will last long the wheel is starting to buckle.

Once the snow had gone i started to did the allotment over, well after i had removed the covers.

Just doing a bit at a time.

I didn't realise how hard it was going to be digging the plot over, and how long it would take.

Front view of plot18 looking nice compared on how it started.

Garlic

Some garlic i planted last year before we got the snow and it survived the winter, well the birds took
a few cloves out but i managed to save them.

Sunday 6 March 2011

Inside the greenhouse

Were i sieve the compost down and get rid of all the large bits of wood that i in the compost bag.

i managed to get half a dozen paving slabs for a walkway through the greenhouse.

Inside the greenhouse i have started to grow onion and leeks in old take away tubs.

Digging soil

Starting to dig over the soil and i didnt realise how hard it was going to be, i thought i would have it done within a couple of days how wrong i was.

Nearly finished digging the plot and it took me ages to do it, may try and get some help next time.

Greenhouse

The shell of the greenhouse before it was fitted out with perspex.

Doent it look good in the background.

Nice even better close up.

Our workstation were the perspex was cut to shape.

I managed to obtain a greenhouse of one of the other allotment holders all i had to do is get some glass or perspex, i managed to get some perspex from work to glaze all the windows and door.

Potatoes ready for chitting.

Here are some potatoes ready for chitting in the conservatory i bought some first and lates, not to sure if i haven't got enough but will find out when i run out of them.

Seeds

Here are my seeds i ordered late last year ready for new plot.

Covered over over christmas.

Managed to get some covers from work so i could cover the allotment once i had weeded it all.

Nice blanket of snow

Once thawed i found the covers again.

These are some of the covers i used over the xmas period to protect the soil and help keep the ground dry ready for digging in the new year.
