Bulbs planted

Didn't do much last week due to the weather being a bit rubbish, well it was misty and damp most of the week. We had snow and hailstone also so it was a mixture of weather all week, the day I decided to go it rained once I go to the allotment. So I got quite muddy and wet putting these bulbs in,I may of rushed it but so will have to see what the outcome is. I'm going to plant some more bulbs and plants at the top of the allotment, once I've cleared a patch for them to go. The ones i planted yesterday were Crocus / Narcis / Allium mixed, if I get half the amount I will be happy well I did plant nearly 200 bulbs in one section.

I noticed all my water butts are just about full, so I need to find some more to capture a bit more water. We did use all the water last season from the butts, but it did save us walking to the water tank at the end of the allotment. So I'm on the look out for bins and large container to hold water in while at work, some more will turn up sooner or later I think.

First time planting

I've planted some onions this week for over winter growing, around about 100 onions planted. The ones I planted were 50 Chinese white onions and 50 red onions, last year I only grew main onions during the summer. When the onions had been eaten we has to go back to shop bought ones, so now I don't have to buy them no just have my own up to now.

I also bought some tulips and crocus bulbs to plant,oh and some garlic as well I'm getting g carried away with this flower bed and winter growing.

I took all my sweetcorn up now and a trimmed and frozen ready to to eat,I've done better than last year so can't complain.

I got my first bird feeder and filled it up already just have to wait for the birds, think I will invest in a few more feeders and sort a table out for them.
When I was composting the old pepper plants some of them had some very roots, also while digging I found a few eggs either snails or slugs.

Pumpkins and sweetcorn

I've took up my pumpkins but all if them look a little pale and ones started to rot,I don't know what these will taste like so will try and carve them up for the kids. I will give them a go next year but will make sure I give them plenty of compost or manure,or just plant them straight into the compost bin.
I took up a couple of sweetcorn to
See what they are like this year compared to last year, once I peeled the outer leafs back most of it was yellow just the tip was still white. So I cut the top of and froze the rest of it and had some for tea,it was quite nice I was surprised and chuffed that it was ok. So will have to take the rest up and eat and freeze it,I have some more for next year and some new types.
I've started to collect leafs again ready for leaf mould for next year or the next,up to now I have about 6 bin bags emptied on the bin and 3 more to take down. All I want to do is drive around picking leafs up as I go along,it's a bit sad but look at all the free stuff and its good to use.

Little bit more done.

Had a few hours on the plot on Saturday and Sunday,I managed to get some jobs done that I've put of for ages and should of done a while back. I finally planted the winter cauliflower and winter leeks, don't know if any of these will take but had to get them in the ground.

All the peppers have finished now so it's back to the shop now to get some, took some more toms home i have a few left in greenhouse but most of them are green. Another red and white cabbage took up, the red ones are better than the white ones.

I took all the peeper plants and Tom plants that had finished out of the greenhouse, all I have left is a few Tom plants and that's it. I got quite upset taking them all out and having nothing left in the greenhouse, all the old plants and compost went onto my compost bin which is getting quite full.

As I was taking out all of the plants from the greenhouse i had a nice surprise I found a cucumber, the last one of the year can't wait to grow them again next year. Last year i planted a few strawberry plants but and only a couple survived, this year I have 25 healthy plants from runners on a couple of plants. I've potted them all up and put inside the greenhouse,it will hopefully make them last over the winter and be ready to plant out in the new year.

Laughing

Think this spud is laughing at me.

A little digging.

That's all my potatoes up now and stored away for the next few months, once the spuds were up I dug over the section the spuds had been. I made a start on weeding another section and started to dig that over,I just need to get back in the zone to carry on digging. Got a few more bits from the greenhouse,it will soon be gone then will have to go back to shops . Boooo.

I've just ordered some more seeds for next years planting from www.vegetableseeds.net, can't wait to start over again just hope it's a little better than this year. I've ordered more flower seeds for tubs at home, also for a section I'm going to do at the allotment to fill some space.

Cleaned the veg

I dug up a little veg and after I gave it a little wash it didn't look that bad, the carrots gave me a surprise because these are the best ones I've ever grown. I had some chillies and garlic that needed sorting,so I chopped them all up and froze them. The chillies were cut into strips and froze, the garlic was chopped up and put into a ice cube tray with a little oil and then put into the freezer.

Not much left in greenhouse

Not much veg left in the greenhouse got a few toms and peppers and that's it,we have had all the cucumber now i think I'm hoping I may get some more but I know I won't. So I'm quite chuffed in what I've got out of the greenhouse, hope I do as well next year.

Thats all spuds up.

That's all my potatoes up now and ready for storage, just have to go through them and take the bad ones out. As I was digging them up I did get rid of a few, but the odd one would of slipped through. The Last ones i took up today was the king Edward ones,I only just got bad what i planted so not good for Edward spuds.

More spuds taken up.

That's another 2 rows of potatoes up this weekend and that just leaves 2 more rows,I got a few spuds from the rows but not baskets full of them. I got more than i planted so can't complain, will grow them all again next year to see if we have better crops. I picked a little veg from the green house,I still have some toms and peppers to pick once ready. I took home my last cucumber this weekend so haven't done bad this year, I've thrown a couple away due to them being eaten. I had about 8 plants this year will do a few more next year but less in each pot, also give them better support for each plant.

Not a lot done

Not done a lot this week only because been busy at work all had has a drop of rain,so not all wasted because it was a little wet to work on. All I've done is a quick tidy up of the shed which was like a bomb site, still got a bit to do in the shed well get rid of a lot of junk. I transferred my compost from one bin to the next just to give it turn I over, any compost that I had left I bagged up and use it later on in the soil. The horse manure we collected a little while ago has rotted down a little, I will be spreading it on the allotment once I've dug and weeded it.

Last of the onions .

Last of the onions bagged up and put away, I did have a few that needed to be used now as wont store. We do line our onions so these ones won't go to waste,I won't be giving a lot away like last year because I haven't the amount as last year.

Just about finished

Just about finished the path that goes along the fence and filled with bark, i did started it a few weeks ago and but I ran our of bark and wood. Managed to get more bark and timber so its 90% completed, just have to finish the front and top a little up then its sorted.
