Few bits

I picked a few bits from the plot while messing around tidying up,picked a few peppers and onions. Peppers are growing quite slow this year, also have  the onions. Need to before organised with the peppers either in pots or ground, this year I've planted in the ground and pots. I have wasted a few plants because I just left them in pots,I should of replanted them or give away and not leave them.

Pickle beets

Picked up a few beets from the plot and decided to pickle them, some of the beets are getting a big on the plot now so won't be any good. I have two types red beet rinds di chioggia and  boltardy, the chioggia is a nice looking beet but once boiled up it's very pale. I've pickled them the same way i do the  rest of the beets using malt vinegar,so fingers crossed it turns out ok.

My little moan to myself

Well what year so far we all had our plots dug over and weeded, well most of it dug over and weeded. We waited for the frosts to come and help us out on the plot, but Mother Nature didn't want to help out this year. We are trying to be organic and recycle on our little slice of soil and home, but years and years of neglect we have buggered up mother nature now. We can try and do our bit put things back on track, but it won't happen over night  as we would like. So we have to contend with strange weather patterns, it's either raining and raining or dry and dry. We do need them both but not to extreme we have been having,so looks like we will have to adapt to it all and hope for the best.

It seemed to be a long time into the year before we started to plant things out,I was thinking we are going to run out of year if we don't start. I've done my best to plant out as much as I can and try new things, some of it has worked but a lot hasn't work. I know it's all trial and error in all we do down on the plot, but would be nice to see some results. I know it's nature that try's to help out as much as she can,but I can't blame her for everything. I've tried to put 100% into the plot this year, but with work and home life it's hard to spend more time on the plot. Other hobbies are doing ok it's just the little plot that's taking a back step, I will make up to it and try and give it more attention from now on fingers crossed anyway.

With saying that I've not been on the plot for the last few days, been out partying and few days away. So it looks like it's my own fault for missing time on the plot, hope the plot has survived my little neglect over the last few months. I'll make it up to the plot and do my best to take better care of it,well thats the plan anyway.

Picked a few bits up.

Picked quite a bit up from the plot for tea and pickling and maybe a bit of wine making, think it's coming to that time again to use it up or lose it. I picked a few beetroots up and rhubarb as well as some bits for tea,I have two types of beetroot growing one is red beet rinds di chioggia and boltardy. I used some of the rinds di chioggia to make some wine, didn't realise how pale it was when I cooked it down. It was a nice colour to start with pinkish rings, but once boiled it was a cloudy lemonade. Need to free up some space in the freezer for all the rhubarb, will make some crumble but the rest will made into wine. I haven't chopped the rhubarb up yet but I think I need a bigger freezer, think this will be my last batch this year i think roll on next year.
