Another weeks gone.

Wow can't believe how the weeks are passing so quickly and next we know we will be covered in snow,so much to do and so little time. Hoping to spend a few hours this week on the plot more than this week,it's alway busy at work every other week so next will be a little calmer.

So this week I've done a bit of this and that but mainly not a lot,so anyway I've managed to dig up my second early's and was chuffed I got a few spuds. I did have a few with slug holes in them but I gave them away to family,I kept most of the ones without holes. I was going to store some of the spuds as seeds for next year, but I got them mixed up with a few 1st spuds i had left so don't know which is which. But I'm going to save a few main crop and use them as seeds for next year, never saved any seeds from veg or flower or spuds to use again.

From the spuds I'd dug up I had some big ones ideal for jackets or rocks, can't beat a nice big pair to hold onto.

Think I've gone a bit mad on saving some beans for next year,I didn't realise  how many I had left to pick. I've given some away and will have to give some more away,if not my plot will be covered in beans. So if you want some just let us know and I will send some out,at this rate I could supply the full site with beans.

When I have been to the plot I've started to do a job and finish it then go onto the next, but the last couple of times it's slipped a bit. On Thursday night I ended up picking brambles and elderberries to try and make some wine, what a ball ache it is trying to pick the berries from the stalks. But I did managed to pick just over 2lb and a 1lb of brambles,so I got them sorted and now in a demijohn fermenting away. Just hope I've done it right and it tastes good and fresh,so yesterday I had planned to pull rest of onions up and sort beans out. But ended up sorting beans out and collecting brambles again, that wasn't even on the list to do but I got 3lb of them so going to make some plonk.

Strawberry bed

The other week I potted a few runners from all the strawberries,I must of potted about 40 new plants. It was time to pot on and start growing again,I had way to many to put back in the same bed. So I decided to make another bed without a frame around it, then potted the new strawberries on. The old patch I just weeded and gave it a quick tidy, left all the old plants in and picked my last fruit from them.

Keeps harvesting

It's the time of year when you can keep harvesting all that lovely veg,but the downside the plot starts to look empty. The greenhouse is still producing plenty of toms/cucumbers/peppers/chilli's,the peppers and cucumbers + toms get eaten straight away but chilli's get frozen. The better half doesn't like chilli's so I freeze them and use in stir fry's and curries, but I don't tell the better half that I've slip the chilli's in the meals.

I've still got two rows of 2nd early's to dig up and that leaves me 4 main crop, still have plenty off swede/marrows/sweetcorn/beetroot pick up and the odd give away.

More beans

Thats another row full of beans picked and have just have one row left to do,I've saved a few beans for seeds for next year to grow. I've never saved any seeds from anything I've grown before,on the other row I have a few more to pick but most of them have turned black so more seeds to use and give away.

Onions

I pulled up some onions at the beginning of the week, only because most of them had fallen over. I laid them out to dry before I store them or eat them, most likely eat them before I store them. Then I decided to go and weed the onion section and pull up even more,I've weeded half of the area and left onions to dry out. Only hoping the onions are still laying on the ground when i go back and no one has jumped fence and pinched them, once dry I will store in the shed at home instead on the allotment.

First squash and funny beets.

Whilst doing a bit of watering I noticed my first squash of the year, don't know if it will get any bigger. I've only planted them in large pots and feed them 2/3 times a week,if I do them next year I will plant them outside or plant in the boarders within the greenhouse. Some of my beetroot don't look very well, only one sort has started to lose its shape a little.

Hello strangers

Hello one and all hope you are doing well,it's been nearly two weeks since my last post and I'm sorry. I've just been a bit busy at work and trying to find time to blog and dig,I've been a few times to the plot to do a bit of this and that but not a lot. This week I'm on holiday and I'm trying to get down and do as much as I can,but only been a couple of times and seem to be getting on with it slowly. So fingers crossed I can catch up with it all, then get back to reading everyone's blogs and more time on the plot.
