Got it done

Yeah weeded the section that I've been trying to do for last three attempts,I've got a couple of sections to do then start all over again. Few months ago I planted some spring onion seeds in tubs to see how these grow, I'm quite chuffed I have some onions to take home not a lot thought. I did try last year in growing onions in the soil, but didn't do very well so tried the tubs. So with them doing ok I've done some more, but I should of done this a while back then I wouldn't run out.

Rain stopped play

Went to the plot on sunday to either carry on weeding or tidy the shed out,it had been raining for some of sunday morning so I thought it would be to wet. Once at the plot the soil was just right to stand on and not get covered in mud,so i carried on weeding and got a bit more done then rain stopped play. I took a picture of the weeds but not a final one till later on,so then I decided to tidy the shed a little and get rid of the rubbish I've collected. So like the
Weeding I've done half weeding and half tidy the shed.

In other news I had to cover my strawberries up because the birds have been at them, also my beans and peas have started to grow. The beans are only small so I will leave them a little while longer before picking, but the pea onwards are ok to pick now and already started to eaten them.

More weeding

I went to the plot on Thursday to do some weeding but it was so dry,so just potted around doing bugger all. So I thought I'd give it ago on Friday after we had some rain,so I spent 5 hours weeding another part. So I left the plot chuffed I'd weeded but had sore knees and a bad back, few more bits left to weed then start all over again.

Few bits potted on.

I've done a bIt more potting on in an evening once I've finished work,I did try and do some weeding the other day when I finished my night shift but it didn't work. I got to the allotment for around 5:30am and started to weed, only problem it was dry and hard and I started falling asleep. So I ended up packing up and going home then came back after tea,but never finished the weeding only did some watering.

So what I've potted on and planted this week are gherkins which are planted in pots and in the soil, same as some of the tomatoes which are in the greenhouse and soil. Also put some squashes (butternut) in pots and soil, some gherkins and squashes are in a compost mix and compost + manure mix. I planted a couple of gherkins in my compost bin to if these grow like the lettuces are doing, just have to
Remember to water them forgot I planted more beetroot.

I've been feeding the toms and Peppers   with shop bought Tomato feed, but feeding a selection with compfrey and left them to one side to see how these grow. If the compfrey works I will make some more and try my hand at using nettle feed. The compfey does smell a bit so I made sure I put the lid back on,I should of strained it then it wouldn't get stuck in the watering can.

Little veg

I had a quick visit to the plot yesterday so I decided to doña quick weeding session,I didn't get on my knees but did it the easy way by hoeing them all. I did manage to weed about 3/4 of the plot, just have to get on my Knees for the rest of the weeding. While I was weeding around the cabbages and sprouts I did notice something white, had a look and to my amazement it was the turnips that was growing. Whoop whoop I have some veg growing I took up a couple of small ones, only one made it home because I ate one of them while weeding (I know I'm bad).

While weeding around the marrows / courgettes / sweetcorn I did notice something else, whoop whoop again I have a baby marrow growing. Also I have some lettuces growing in the compost bin, love this part planting seeds and brining the veg home once grown.

My new water catching bath is working just need to fill around the bath to make it look neater,I also need some more guttering for the other side so that water can go in the bath. While I was admiring the bath i did notice some bugs and bees floating,I'd save some bugs also save one bee and loss one bee.

Little more done

I've filled some wooden tubs with compost / leafs / and manure, then I've planted some peppers and chilli's in them. So will wait to see what happens to see if the plants will grow,I've also planted some peppers and chilli's in just tubs of compost.

I have planted a few more tomato and cucumber plants in tubs,I am going to feed some with tomato feed and the others with some compfry liquid.  Also going to plant some out side to see what happens,I have been told the toms may get blight when grown outside.

Quick visit

Had a quick couple of visits to the little plot over the last few days, haven't really done much apart from pot on a few things and do some tubs for home. Things are coming on slowly in the greenhouse but at least we have movement, also on the plot things have perked up. Red cabbages are doing well also are the beetroot,in the greenhouse the cucumbers/gherkins/butternut squashes are doing well just need potting on.

Also the winter red and white onions I planted last year are starting to fill out, well the white ones are anyway still waiting for the red ones to get bigger. Forgot to say my strawberries have started to swell up a little, going to have to get some cream and a couple of tennis rackets.

Chuffed and upset

Over the last year while weeding I collected all the weeds and bits of soil attached to them, then left them in a corner of the allotment to gather dust. So this week I decided to have a look on how's it's doing,I was quite surprised how good it had rotted down. So id thought I'd use the soil in some planters and in the greenhouse for growing,it would of come in handy and saved me a little cash.

So I dug a bit out and mixed it with leafs and manure and filled some pots with it, the soil does looks better in the flesh than it does on the photo. Then the next day i thought I'd dig a bit more out and use some more,I started to dig again then had to stop because some bees had made a nice place for a home. About half a dozen bees came out of the hole looking a bit upset,so I stopped the digging and left them alone. I didn't disturb it much on the second time I was digging I just skimmed the edges,Just hoping the bees found the way back in and have settled down again. Will have to keep an eye on the mud hill for signs of bees going in and out,so fingers crossed the bees are ok.

Trying some new ways

I have plenty of tomato  and pepper plants growing in the greenhouse, only problem i have is i don't want to spend loads of grow bags for them all. I have over 30 Tom plants and 40 pepper plants,so just for the tomato plants id need over 10 grow bags and 15 for the peppers. I have given a few plants away so the totals have changed a little but still a lot of bags to buy,so I've decided to try different soils to grow them. The plants may not grow but at least I've tried something else,it's all about trial and error and seeing what works and not. I will grow some in grow bags because I know I'll get something in return, fingers crossed the others will grow and then I can  try again next year.
