Wasted a goo day.

I should of gone to the allotment on Saturday but decided I would stay at home,so I went on sunday and only stayed 1 hour because it didn't raining. Only thing I got done was I had some rhubarb that needed replanting don't know if it will work, also removed some chicken wire from an old fence so I can reuse. Didn't go to the allotment on Monday because it's been raining and it may be a tad muddy,hoping to go today when I leave work.

Not a bad day.

Had a good day yesterday at my little plot I've managed to weed section and take up all my carrots,I also dug over the soil which is only about 4ft x 24ft.Most of the carrots I took up had been eaten by carrot flies,I will go though them and sort them out and freeze them.

Ive took all my netting up and removed all the posts that supported the netting,well it was over the cabbages and sprouts. The sprouts went straight onto the compost bin only because I never supported them,and they have sprouted up a little much. The netting that is left up on the allotment is on the winter cauliflower. I hoping to go to the allotment tomorrow and weed the cabbage section and weed a little more.

Little done.

Went to the plot yesterday and did a little more weeding,I've finished one more section so now just have to did it over. I'm not putting a time scale on what time i will finish the rest but will just crack on with it,in the compost bin I've found some feathers do I think something has been killed or attacked. We have been given some logs for our allotment by the local school, we may use some as stools to sit on while having a cuppa, I think Keith will put some of them around his pond on his plot.

Wasted day

Went to the allotment yesterday while we had a little rain and a lot of wind,I did a little weeding so not doing to bad at the moment,just can't wait to finish it and do some other bits. I stayed at home today with the better half and wished I was at the allotment,only reason for that is it was a lovey sunny day and could of done some reason. Another reason for me to fall back on weeding is having few to many cups of tea.

Good few days.

Had a good few days at weeding the allotment and feel quite proud that I've got a little bit more done,I have one main section left to weed then to dig it over then it's some small parts that are left. We have had a few days of unsettled weather we have had rain/frost/wind/sun,the frost had wiped out my celery I know I wouldn't eat it all so my compost bin loves it.

I need to sit down and sort out what I need for this years growing and which section it needs planting in, I have still a few half packs of seeds from last year still sealed up to use first.I made a spreadsheet last year of all the produce I planted and a rough time I planted them,so I will have to drag it out and get sorted for this year

Bit more done and meeting.

We had a meeting at one of the other allotments on the city to see how the allotment association worked,we were surprised how good it was an noticed a different atmosphere around the allotment. It was quite good to see what funding they got from company's and what they got out of the funding,each site had different needs so all funding may not work.

We are going to try and hold a meeting with the rest of the allotment holders to see if they all want to create an association,some of them may not want to join one so will have wait and see.

Our local police team have been involved all the way up to now and helped with setting up of the meetings,which is a great help to us and the knowledge they have about crime prevention is all good.

When we finished the meeting we went straight back to the allotment then carried on with some digging and sorting,I've finished one more section just one big area and some small bits to weed and dig.

As i was digging I found a couple more parsnips which I thought had died ages ago,it was the biggest one that I've grown and looking forward to eating it.

Onion and spuds laid out.

I opened my turbo onions and took all the dead skins and rotting onions away, also laid out the potatoes out to start them of.Itook a photo of an seed onion compared to a full onion,it's surprising how big some of them grow.

Little more done after work

Been to the plot over the last few days to carry on with the digging when i left work, i got a little more done so just have to keep at it again till its finished.I took juke with me yesterday to keep him quiet, it didn't work he just moaned and just sat waiting.

A little done

Went to the allotment to try and do a little more weeding and i got a little done,I did go on Sunday but just as I started to weed it started to rain.I managed to weed a section about 10 x 24 ft and then start to dig it,didn't dig much but at least I've weeded it.

As I was weeding I found 3 Parsnips which I thought had died ages ago,out of 2 rows I only have had 3 parsnips in total. Will try and grow them again this year let's see what happens,I have covered a section up so it keeps dry till i get around to weed it.

Seed potatoes and onion sets

Went to shop yesterday and got myself some Desiree seed potatoes and some onion sets,the onion sets I have used before but the main crop potatoes first time

This is why I don't get anything done while at the allotment ,well it had been raining so a little muddy. But managed to clear some of the dead leaves around the cabbages and sprouts, it makes it look a bit more tidier.

Some Beetroot.

Went to the allotment yesterday to do some weeding and tidy up,once I got to the allotment I could do nothing it was windy and raining. So I have to wait a little while for it to dry out so I can carry on with the weeding,I've only got a couple of patches to do but it's taking ages to do.

I've got a little produce left In the ground to take up if and when I need it, like carrots, beetroot, swede, cauliflower, leeks, celery,some of it will end up on the compost heap or give it away like the celery we can't eat it quick enough and it's real thin,some of the beetroot is a little big for the pan so may give some away if I can.

I took some cabbages - carrots - celery home for my healthy dinners also took some beetroot home to pickle, I managed to pickle a few beets and made 2 jars out of them.

Covers for shed.

I have been to the allotment to try and sort the shed roof out with some covering,i put some sheets on the roof the place the felt used to be.It may not be perfect but it will do the job I hope,only time will tell if a hole pops up I will just tape the hole.

I also put some guttering up on the back of the shed which I got from a mate, I put it up using the original brackets but was a little short. So I made some packing for behind the brackets, which helped but the covering on the shed was a little smooth and the water missed the guttering. So in the end I ended with 5 bits of wood behind each bracket,so now the water goes into the guttering now.
